Visiting overseas All the time, we see adverts on TV and items in the news, forcing us to face the reality of life for the "rest" of the world - poverty, hunger, aids and disease. But what is reality? As one team member visiting our partner organisation in India said "I have never comprehended real poverty before coming here." Micah's Call wants to give people in the developed world an opportunity to jump out of their comfort zone and experience what real poverty is and how their actions can help those most in need. We currently do not have any spaces on our overseas visit in 2009.
Past visits: In June 2009 a team of four visited Love India project partner church in Tamil Nadu, South India. In July 2008 a team of five people visited the JMHA project in India, witnessing their work for the poor around them, visiting villages, churches and JMHA campus areas. Our trustees carried out auditing and administrative aspects, while the team joined in with the work JMHA carries out in the local area. In July 2007 a team of five people visited the project Micah's Call supports in Tamil Nadu, South India. It was an eye opening time for all as we came into contact with the real India, a place where some struggle to survive, but where life is enjoyed in the context of community like we have never experienced. The team took time to meet their sponsored children, and also take part in the variety of ministries conducted by the church running the home. In a small but significant way, the team made a lasting impact on the lives of the people they met. In much the same way, on returning to the UK, life would never be the same for the team members after such an amazing experience. In October 2006, a team of three people visited JMHA's ministry in Tamil Nadu South India for two weeks in October. The aim was to visit sponsored children, film a promotional video about the work, and take part in the work that JMHA do for the local people. Please have a read of the report on the home page to see more about what we did. |
