Leprosy Care

Through the work of JMHA, Love India has been enabling people in the UK to directly impact the lives of people afflicted by leprosy. Leprosy is a painless condition caused by bacteria which destroys nerve endings. It is cureable, but permanently affects a persons ability to feel pain in affected areas. Often, this means that small abrasions or cuts go unnoticed, get worse, and can lead to disfigurement through amputation.
Leprosy carries a heavy social burden, as sufferes are excluded by freinds and family who fear leprosy, even though it is cureable. Picture to right - Glory Dhas, JMHA, with a leprosy afflicted man who wheels around using a small cart due to loss of function of hands and feet.
Transforming lives...
In two communities of leprosy affected people, Bargur and Dharmapuri, Love India has been a vehicle through which UK donors have changed lives. Food Ongoing support for regular nutritious food, and special events has been a feature of Love India's input to the colonies.
Water After one colony had its well dry up, Love India were the vehicle for a donation to bore another well. Pipes now take the water closer to where its needed, in communal kitches and a medical centre.
Income generating projects The provision of sheep has allowed the leper colony communities become less dependent on begging, and charitable handouts. Cows have also been provided through JMHA. Every day, a government worker milks the animals and sells the food on a a local market.
The need for basic care and infrastructure in these communities is ongoing. Healthcare, food and water and employment are all ongoing problems. Love India is excited to offer the opportunity for people from the UK to join in, being the answer to peoples prayers.
